Recycle Option for Christmas Trees, by Mary-Ann Alig

Christmas tree removal will be provided between the dates of January 2 and January 11, 2013, by the City of La Crosse Refuse and Recycling. Trees will be removed from the boulevard daily and recycled. Tree recycling offers an environmentally friendly alternative of product repurposing compared to disposal in landfill or personal burning.

A continual rotation of pick-up, from north to south, will be performed by the removal crew through January 11. The city cannot guarantee the time of removal for any particular address, so it is important that trees are placed on the boulevard by 7 a.m. each morning. As a separate operation from normal garbage and recycle removal, there is no guarantee the trees will be removed on the same day.

The City of La Crosse requests that residents remove all tinsel, ornaments, and tree bags prior to placing trees on the boulevard.

The trees will go through a recycling/repurposing process of being made into wood chips by the forestry department. At a later date, the wood chips will be available at the city waste site on Isle La Plume.
